Blog About a Blog

“You can’t just turn on creativity like a faucet. You have to be in the right mood.
What mood is that? Last-minute panic.” – Bill Watterson

I have always aspired at being a blogger, the idea was to start a blog so I could be that one person at the BBQ that seems witty, interesting and cultured by saying that I right a blog.

A blog would allow me to control the conversation and talk about things without having to wait for the perfect segue moment in conversation.

6 years on and all I manged to do was set up a square space and WordPress Account with nothing but empty shells for blog posts.

Present day and here I am bashing out blog number 1! Although perhaps not the most life altering blog ever written I am managing to get some of the many thought I have in writing and built up the courage to put pen to paper (so to speak).

With a penchant for making things a lot wordier than they have to be I was really stuck with a 1,000 word limit for a uni assignment. All these great ideas I’d had would have to be canned or…. I could re purposed them into their very own blog topics.

I apologise to anyone in advance who has stumbled across this blog and is like what the hell am I reading? I too would think I had stumbled into the inner rantings of a mad women (you wouldn’t be half wrong).

Why have I put blogging off for so long? Well I guess a lack of self confidence, fear of trolling or my ideas not being well received (ego), lack of time and do I really have something important to say? Having an element of anonymity helped alleviate some of these anxieties.

The overall writing experience has not been laboured at all and the words and ideas have flowed quite naturally through me into the keyboard.

So here are some tips for my fellow newbies:

  • Jot down your ideas no matter how big or small.
  • Do your research. Read other blogs. What do they do well?
  • Include media and other items to make your blog more interesting.
  • Reference where possible.
  • Right out a quick blog strategy. What do you want to achieve?
  • Delve in. Choose a platform and learn how to use it.
  • Share your content. Go on, be brave.
  • Have fun!

Thanks for reading.
